Beomseo Kim is a Los Angeles based painter.

I draw inspiration from flowers, nature, and movement. I am especially drawn to moments when flowers sway in the wind, colors blur softly, and forms are not fully defined scenes that evoke emotion rather than clarity. Movement and repeated patterns are central to expressing emotion in my work.

Inspiration

I often find inspiration in moments when focus fades, colors merge, and forms become soft. These fleeting sensations capture emotions and memories that I aim to translate onto canvas.

Motivation

The more I paint, the more I fall in love with mixing colors and experimenting with materials. Art, to me, is a tool for expressing emotion without a “right” answer. A true artist sees the world through a unique lens and is unafraid to share that vision.

Process

My work usually begins with sketches and color tests. I experiment with different tones and materials to capture mood and emotion. A piece feels complete when I no longer feel the need to touch it, and the surface seems to stop itself.

Materials & Techniques

I primarily work with acrylics, combined with brushes, airbrushes, soft and oil pastels, among other materials. The textures and unpredictability of each medium often guide the direction of the piece and bring out unexpected emotions.

Style

I am still discovering my own style. Rather than following trends, I prioritize responding honestly to instinct and emotion. Through color, pattern, and movement, I aim to express feelings intuitively.

Influences

I draw inspiration from the bold energy and fearless use of color seen in artists like Damien Hirst and FLORE. However, I reinterpret these influences through my own perspective rather than imitate.

Themes & Message

I hope my work provides viewers with a sense of calm. As you look at the pieces, I invite you to recall personal memories or stories and create your own narrative. The way each viewer experiences the work becomes part of its completion.

Why did I start this work?

I began painting as a child in art school, learning anatomy and color theory. After a period away from art, I returned to painting, naturally leading to the work I create today.

Why these materials and techniques?

Acrylics allow me to layer colors and express repeated patterns freely, offering an intuitive way to convey emotion.

What am I trying to express?

For example, I capture the purple of jacaranda trees or the soft pink of cherry blossoms using dots and gentle color transitions, favoring a blurred, abstract feel over sharp realism.

Message to viewers

I hope my work brings a moment of peace. Let your imagination wander, recall your own memories, and interpret the work in your own way. Your response becomes part of the piece’s story.
